We only take bookings through our Airbnb listing as it offers the simplest process for both our guests and ourselves.
Hosts - David & Sandra Baillie
Parking is 240 metres from Windy Hall. While we make every effort to be around to give guests a lift in our 4WD from the parking area to the house, it is not always possible.
Our guests have exclusive use of the self contained West Wing. There is a discreet and locked connecting door into our family home behind a curtain on the landing but essentially the whole of the West Wing is yours. We look forward to spending as much or as little time in conversation with our guests as they want. We'll always try to be available to collect guests from local public transport and can make suggestions on local attractions and walks. However if you want to be left alone to enjoy the peaceful solitude and tranquility of Windy Hall then we'll leave you alone. We can't guarantee to be around all the time but will always give our guests contact numbers if we are out. If we are in, we'll always do our best to give local lifts to guests without cars or cycles.
Sandra works in renewable energy across a range of consenting and planning roles. Sandra's mother is French so she is bilingual. She's currently in training in her spare time as an Emergency Medical Technician to help staff the Alston volunteer ambulance service. David is a cameraman who has filmed in over 90 countries and worked on several Attenborough series. He's previously worked as a social worker, artist, teacher & environmental campaigner. He holds a pilot's licence and flies both fixed wing and microlights. Our daughter Amelie is 14 and enjoys dance, riding and most other contemporary teenage preoccupations, while our elder son Greg is in the Navy. We also have a border collie called Helm and a cat called Sox, both of whom are very friendly.
Windy Hall and its surroundings are non smoking areas
We cannot offer accommodation for more than 1 couple and 1 single person or child. We regret that Windy Hall is not suitable for a very young infants or toddlers.
If you have a 4WD vehicle you are welcome to use it to bring your luggage up the track but we ask that you then park it at the bottom of the track.
Being away from the nearest paved road means that that shoes may get muddy, so we ask that guests remove outside footwear in the Entrance Hall. If you don’t have your own slippers you’re welcome to take advantage of the free slippers we provide.
For insurance reasons we can't allow real candles but there are many realistic LED candles around the house which can still be very romantic!
Windy Hall is surrounded by traditionally farmed fields and open fells. We ask our guests to respect the livelihoods of our farming neighbours by following the Country Code and keeping to the public footpaths or Open Access areas clearly marked on the OS Explorer maps OL43 & OL31 (available in the Drawing Room).
For the same reason we regret that we are unable to accept dogs under any circumstance.
The fields around the house are normally occupied by sheep and occasionally cattle. Please keep the garden gates closed at all times, and leave the gate at the top of the track how you found it whether open or closed.
